2011 Athlete of the Week

Week #1

Miguel Miguel Bautista: Formerly known as "The Kid"!  Miguel has grown out of his "kid" shell & emerged as one of the top runners in the area.  He has worked his tail off this summer and is posting some incredible times in training and in our early races.  He has set a course record on nearly every outing.  Miguel will be leading his teammates on a quest to reach the state meet for the second year in a row.  Well done Miguel, all the hard work is paying off.  Keep it up!

Week #2
What all four of these athletes of the week
have in common is a great summer of training,
solid work ethic, and they are all willing to put it
all on the line on race day for thier team.  It is no
coincidence that all four of these guys were the class
level leaders (or right up there) during the cow run this past
weekend. They all ran PR's or very close to it.  Nice start
to a very promising season.  Way to go guys!

All of these guys have been working very
hard over the summer & it definitely paid
off at Woodbridge.  All of them having
major drops in time.  Well desrved for a very hard working crew. Nice job guys!!
Miguel
Matt Oca: 9th Zach Ponce: 10th Kevin Dybens: 11th Josh Mayfield: 12th Christian Vazquez: Var.

Miguel Bautista: Honorable Mention
School XC 3 Mile Record!
14.23!!!

Week #4
John Bogich & Christian O'Keefe: A "tie" for Athelte of the Week! A tie is very apprpriate for these two fine young athletes as they both have similar hard working charicteristics.  The both have good attitudes.  And they both had the same time at Woodbridge!  As a matter of fact, a very reliable sourse tells me that they have raced many times over the years that way back during their kindergarden school yard race, they also tied!  Christian & John will continue to push each other to faster times & thats OK as long as they contine to work hard & improve.  Nice job guys!
Woodbridge

Week #5
Veth
Raul
Bray
Zach
Var. - Veth Seng: Senior pride is kicking in for Veth. A new PR at El Dorado of 15.31 has put Veth on a whole new level this year!
His progress is an example of what you can do when you really put your mind to it!  Congrates to Veth on a great year...so far...lots more to come!
JV - Raul Vazquez: Raul has really come on stong over the summer & fall.  Cautiosly progressing his training to a point where he too has senior pride kicking in!  He is one of our top runners & a very valuable teammate.  He is definitly the strong & quiet type!  Great job this year so far Raul, lots more to come for you too!
F/S - Bray Turner: A break out race has been waiting for Bray & it came at El Dorado.  His second place overall is a sign of things to come.  He works very hard & is reaping the rewards off all his hard work.  Great job Bray...keep it up!
F/S - Zach Zibits: Zack also had a breakout race at El Dorado.  His thrid place overall is serving notice that he is fopr real 7 looks to be one of our top F/S runners.  Both Zack & Bray will be leading the F/S team into the hills at Moore League #2 & on to "3" at Moore Leagiue Finals.  Way to go Zack!

Week #6
Eris
Eris DeLaTorres:
Both of these guys had a great day at Clovis helping
their respective teams to fine finishes.  Neither of them were the first
Poly runner but they were both up there in scoring position for their team.  They have
both been working hard & are working their way back into shape coming off of an
early season minor injury and look to be coming into prime shape just at the right time.
Great job guys...keep up the good work!
Cam
Cameron Ford:

Week #7
Brandon Roa: Brandon has been a corner stone
of the F/S team all year long.  He was the critiacl #7
runner for Poly which iced the prefect 1-7 race!
He is an extemely hard worker & has the talent &
will to motivate his teammates. It must run in the family!
Nice job Brandon.
Keep up the good work!
Brandon Kenji Sanders: Kenji has been on a mission this
year to make his Junior class & & JV team the best it can be.
He was our #5 JV runner at Signal Hill & at DP, he was
determined to help bring home the sweeps award w/
a strong Jr. class showing.  He went out hard, actually
leading the race for a while & brought it home hard for
4th overall & 2nd Poly runner!  His motivation and
drive should help propel the JV team to a good showing
at SAC & also @ Moore League Finals.  Nice job Kenji!
Kenji

Week #8
Jacob
Jacob Vilchez:  Jacob has been improving all year long.
He training has been very solid but his racing just wan't matching what he was doing in training.
Well finally at Mt. SAC, he put it all together &
finally raced to his potential.  Going out strong & controlled (but not crazy)
he kept his pace & focus & came through w/ a monster PR.
With this type of focus & effort, he should have a
fantastic Moore League Finals.  Way top go Jacob!

Week #9
Eric Brunner:  Eric has been working very harder every week.  He is really trying to bump up his
training & catch all the guys he was running with last year.  Eric played golf last spring which, by the way, is a great sport
but it lacks the aerobic development needed to be a good runner.  Running is a year round sport & Eric now realizes this.
I am sure he will continue to work hard & continue to improve.  Keep up the good work Eric!
