2009 Athlete of the Week

Week #1

Eric Riehl:  Eric has put in a fantastic summer & it shows.  He was one of our top mileage runners & it is cerrtainly paying off by how he is now running.  He is consistantly one of our top runners and he was the winner at the bun run time trial in near record time. Way to go Eric, you are off to a great start for what should be a banner year!
Eric

Week #2
Sergio
Kenny
Las Vegas: Sergio Romero:  Sergio had a break out race at the Las Vegas Invites.  He was not only our top JV runner, leading the team to first place, but he was the overall winner of the JV race.  Not an easy task when the temperature at the starting line was 97 degrees!  Sergio continues to get fitter & faster.  Can't wait to see what he can do under cooler, faster conditions.  Well done Sergio!
Cow Run: Kenny Holstad:  Kenny had a fantastic day at the Great Cow Run.  Not only did he set a course PR, but he set a season PR as well as a lifetime PR & broke 18 for the first time ever!  He also had our fastest time for the day.  Well done Kenny.  Can't wait to see more of those times drop!  Nice job Kenny!

Week #3

Randy
Raul
Ruben
Sean
9th Grader:  Randy "Jr." Pavey
PR & stellar attendance!
10th Grader:  Raul Vasquez
Coming back very strong from a late summer injury!
11th Grader:  Ruben Baerga
Huge top end drop in time for a monster PR!
12th Grader:  Sean Price
Another monster PR even w/ a fall near the start!
All of these guys had PR's at Woodbrige but it is their work ethic that got them to this point & that (along w/ the PR's) are why they are the Athletes of the Week.  They all work very hard & it is paying off!  Well done guys.  Keep up the good work!

Week #4
Fernando
Jaime
Fernando Bogarin:  Lower Classmen Athlete of the Week Jaime Grabinski:  Upper Classmen Athlete of the Week

Both these great athletes are hardworking, dedicated to the team and have fantastic attitudes.  They are both true athletes of the week.  The only difference I see besides their grade levels is that only one of them has the dubious distinction of also receiving another coveted Poly xc accolade!!!

Week #5

Caleb Stahl (F/S): Caleb has made unbeleiveable improvements over the last year.  A few examples:  Bun Run, last year 29.47, this year 20.05! El Dorado, last year 26.55, this year, 20.14!  Warren 23.22, this year  19.40.  Incredible!!!  Nice job Caleb...keep those PR's & drops coming!
Saul Mora(JV):  SAul has improved in almost every race this year.  He keeps getting faster & has become a consistent scoreer for JV.  As a matter of fact, he was our top JV runner at El Dorado.  Nice going Saul...keep those improvements coming!
Chris Penn(Var):  Christian finally got his form back at El Dorado and boy did he look good.  Not only did he shatter his time from last year, but he was 3rd overall on the day (2nd) Poly runner, w/ a near PR under very hot conditions.  Well done Chris...nice to have you back!
Vic Espinosa(Var):  Vic not only PR'd at El Dorado on a scorching day, but he was our #3 runner & 4th overall on the day, helping hsi team to victory!  He had a great breakthrough & looks to be getting stronger each week.  Way to go Vic!

Week #6
Jazeel
Carl
Jazeel Garcia(Lower Classmen):  Jazeel is really coming on strong.  After a fairly slow start w/ seveal injuries, he is now running very well & is coming into prime form for our seasons home stretch.  His training is kicking in & he is poised to reallly score some big points w/ some fast times.  Nice job Jazeel.  Lets finish strong!!!
Carl "Comeback" Price(Upperclassmen):  Carl has been out since May & had to take 3 months off to nurse an injured knee.  He returned to running about a month ago & has made steady progress.  He "tested" his knee out at DP w/ a training run/race w/ very positive results.  Not only did he help score for the Senior team, but he was only 6 sconds slower than last year!  Hoepfully we can continue the comeback all the way too MLF & CIF!

Week #7

Shawn Jordison: Shawn has been working very hard & has begome one of the strongest current 9th grade runners.  He continues to step it up & improve each week in workouts & races.  He is going to have a grat Moore League Finals.  Way to go Shawn!
Cameron Ford:  Cameron is doing very well as a fisrt year runner for us.  He has steadily moved his way up through the soph. ranks & is now a strong scorer for the F/S team.  He is also setting himself up for a great Moore LEague Fianls!  Keep up the good work Cameron!

Week #8

team tyler
Glen Turner: Glenn haas been running strong all year but he was never really happy w/ his races, always wanting more.  Well at Mt. SAC last weekend, I think Glenn popped a great race & he can be very satisified w/ his effort & carry that strong race confidence into Moore League Finals.  WEll done Glenn, lets keep it going!
The Sunday JV Crew #@ LA Cancer Challenge:  With the M. SAC Organization cancelling all the regualr JV races, our JV squad was left ahnging dry on this last tune up weekend.  But did they sit at home wishing for a race?  No, they took action & spent a big chunk of thier Sunday up in LA at the LA Cancer Challenge getting in a great tune up racing time trial before the big showdown at Moore League Finals!  This just shows how focused these cares are at giving it one last best shot & going for the crown.  They also got a nice reality check by meeting a very fast female olympian, Shannon Rowbury & a veruy sick & formnerly very fast Poly XC/Track athlete, Tyler Noeson.  Way to go guys!

Week #9
Dillon Tellier:  Dillon has really come on as a runner & as a leader this year.  He has made great strides to improve his PR, make varsity  & even more important, he has motivated & kept the team on task, working toward our goals!  Great year Dillon!!!
Dillon

Week #10
Bryce
var
Brad
F/S Team - Bryce King:  After coming off a near season ending injury in a soccer game after his first race of the year, Bryce worked his way back into shape.  A full month off & only 1 race left in the season did not stop Bryce from giving it his all.  Not only did he set a PR on the heartwell course (in trainers) but he also was the #5 scorer for the F/S team.  We can't wait to see Bryce at full stregnth next year tosee what he can really do.  Nice job Bryce!
Varsity Team - Varsity Team!:  Fasterst team time by a moorew league school since 2002.  Thrid league mmet in a row that they set a new team time standard.  5 guys under 16.  A spread of only 27 seconds.  Avg. 15.41!  Outstanding job in defendingthe title!!!
JV Team - Brad Roa:  Brad was determined as ever to help his JV team win the title.  He did not waste any time in doing so by taking command of the race & setting the pace.  A crazy fast first mile blew the field apart.  Brad did not win the race but his blistering pace set up his teammates for a fine finish.  Brad faded a bit but still had a monster PR!  Well done Brad, way to lead your guys ot he title!!!
