Poly XC Dead Period Reminders
As
we go off into the Òdead periodÓ for the next three weeks, I would like to give
you all a few ÒfriendlyÓ reminders
about a few items that need to be reiterated.
*All Poly XC Runners need
to run over the 3 week dead period. You must either run on your own or w/ a
teammate. Most guys usually like
to meet at the same parks at the same time as the normal practice schedule. Parents, this is an unsupervised
practice w/ no coaches in attendance so it is obviously not mandatory. Please use your discretion for your
sonÕs participation. If they (or
you) choose to run at any other time besides the designated practice times,
please let me know.

Every athlete should have
either scheduled their summer sports physical or even better, already had their
physical. Once the physical is
complete, make a copy of your insurance card, take the internet course and
please start walking the paperwork through at Poly for the three required
signatures (Nurse, bookroom & banker). You can call poly for hours. ALL ATHLETS MUST HAVE
THEIR CLEARANCE PACKAGE COMPLETED & TURNED IN TO ROOM 105 BEFORE AUG 28TH!!! All Mammoth Athletes MUST have the clearance medical form completed BEFORE Mammoth Camp!!!
*Mammoth Runners: We have
28 spots for camp w/ ~35 runners that said they are seriously interested in
going. There are certain
requirements FOR ALL mammoth runners.
Just because you ran varsity or were the fastest 9th grader last
year does not guarantee you a
spot!!! Failure to meet one or any
of the following items could result in giving up your spot!
a. Minimum down
payment ($175) is due by end of June.
You may also pay the full amount up front $350. Final payment is due by the end of

c. You MUST be
running hills (long run in Signal Hill or Whittier) nearly every weekend! There will be a total of 9 (June
6 – August 7) long hilly Saturday runs before Mammoth. My primary concern is for all Poly athletes safety. I need to know that ALL mammoth runners
can handle the extreme rigors of our mammoth running camp. The weekend long hill run is the best
indication to see if you are fit enough.
If you donÕt do most of these runs or have already missed most of them,
you probably wonÕt be going to mammoth!

*Bottom Line. Get in some consistent & solid miles, slowly
build up your mileage, stay hydrated, bond w/ your teammates, keep our goals in
sight & have some fun!
RememberÉDoing the best you possibly can for your team & ÓPRÓing in
the fall racing season is really ÒfunÓ but it takes a ton of hard work over the
summer to get there.
