Mammoth
The Mammoth camp is usually held from early August (Saturday) through
Mid August (Sunday). The boosters have assumed responsibility for this
camp and are in charge of Condo Chaperones, meal planning &
shopping, drivers, etc.
Accommodations for runners. We need parents to arrange condos to
handle a large group. Depending on the total number of athletes, Four
or five condos (& chaperones) will be necessary. Our normal ratio
is 1 condo chaperone per 7 athletes.
Transportation for runners. We need parent drivers to provide
transportation to and from Mammoth as well as shuttle service during
the week.
Supervision during runs. For safety reasons we need some parents to be
out on the run courses during our training runs. Anyone willing to run,
hike, walk or Mt. Bike would be greatly appreciated. Former runners are
encouraged to join us and are always welcome to assist as trail
chaperones.
How many runners? In the past the limiting factors have been
transportation, accommodations and lack of training participation. We
will only take those runners who participate in summer practices with
the team & have been deemed fit for mammoth by the coaching
staff. This means that in addition to normal practices,
prospective mammoth athletes must make most of the Sat. Hilly Long runs!
Cost? Probably around $350 per runner for the 9 days.
Organizer. Most importantly of all, we need a parent willing to
organize and coordinate all of the above.
Saturday Summer Hilly-Trail Runs
This is the cornerstone of our summer training program. The
runners do a long hilly trail run (usually out in the Whittier Hills)
on saturday mornings. We need parents to drive the team out to
the hills or we can't do this workout! We meet in the parking lot
by Starbucks (just incase you need an early morning boost) at the Long
Beach Town Center (Carson & 605 Fwy) 6:30 am. Most
parents end up joining us on the trails & hike, bike &/or run
in our very scenic training locations.
