PAST
WEEKS HIGHLIGHTS & COACHES THOUGHTS:
The
post season began for the Poly Boys Varsity runners at the Southern Section CIF
Prelims on the Mt. SAC course last Saturday. Poly runners had a great day of
competition highlighted by their 4th place finish in their heat!
Top 4
advance so our post season will continue on our quest to get to the state
meet. This is our second year in a
row that we have qualified for finals.
And with the southern section getting tougher & deeper every year,
this is quite an accomplishment.
The race began
under ideal conditions. We were
the first heat of the day so it was a bit brisk at the early 7:45 start. Ruben & Chris set the pace for a
solid first mile w/ most guys controlled between 4.56 & 5. As usually, a huge & tight pack
went into the switchbacks while the runners were getting strung out down the
backside & at crossover. We
were in good position w/ 5 guys still in close contact. Up & over pop out & down
the backside to the 2 mile mark & into no-mans land we were still holding
our position & running strong.
Chris led the team through the 2 mile at 10.37 w/ Jazeel, our #5, only
17 seconds back. Over Reservoir
& to the finish, their was still a lot of Òroad killÓ (aka jerseyÕs) to go
after. At the line we had a very
nice pack w/ only a 25 second spread.
See Results below:
Overall,
it was a very good day & everyone should be proud of this
accomplishment. But we cannot sit
back & be satisfied with just making finals. We need to have the attitude that we belong in finals &
we are going to go for it at finals & we that we are a contender for making
the state meet! After the race,
every varsity team member agreed that as a team, we can still improve & we
will next week!
