2009 LB Poly Boys XC Team

Weekly Fall Newsletter #4

PAST WEEKS HIGHLIGHTS & COACHES THOUGHTS:

We have had a GREAT week of solid training heading into our league opener.  Use the confidence of your training to carry you to great achievements on race day.

Speaking of race dayÉdonŐt worry about PRŐs on Thurday, they will come but are not the priority.  IT IS JERSEY TIME!!! We now, more than ever, we run for place. It is all about places. Every jersey in front of you is important. The jersey from an opponent in front of you could make the difference in your teams placing. You have got to want this one bad!

Moore League #1 is going to be a Ňbarn burnerÓ  (aka it is going to be blisteringly fast!).  The fields are going to go out extremely quick, so you need hang tough & go out very strong in that first mile, but still stay w/in your limits & under control.  DonŐt let the competition get out of contact  & then really build that second mile up, over and down  the hill & bring home that last mile with everything that you have got!

So even though we are not at peak form yet, that comes in a 5 weeks, we are still going to see many fast times, many PRŐs & pass lots of jerseys as we will be one step closer to our first team goal of Ň3Ó.   RememberÉdig deep on race day boysÉthis one counts!

The first Moore League Cluster meet of the season will take place on Thurday, October 1st, at El Dorado Park, Area 3 North of Wardlow but enter on Spring. The meet will begin at 3:00 p.m. and will conclude at about 6:30 p.m. Our bus will leave from 15th Street by the Science Building at 2:00 p.m. sharp. Order of Events (approximately every 30 minutes starting at 3:00 p.m.): JV Boys, JV Girls, Varsity Boys, Varsity Girls, FS Boys, FS Girls.

JV Early Out...we would love to get our JV team over to El Dorado Park early to give them plenty of time to do a proper & full warm up.  We could use some parent volunteers to drive the boys over.  I will give them an early out for 1:20 if we have enough parents to drove.  Please let me know.

*Team Photos at Meet...We will be taking our official team Var & F/S photos as soon as we arrive (~2:30pm) while the JV will do theirs after the JV race (~3:30pm).  Bring your camera as it is a great time to get your own team photo!

*Spectating at the MeetÉVery Important...We encourage all athletes, friends & parent/guardians to come & support all the Moore League athletes.  Please be positive, supportive & encourage everyone, not just the Poly runners.  If you are joining us at the park on bike or jogging, please also remember that it is against the rules to run along or ride along w/ any athlete in the race.  This also goes for Poly athletes warming up or cooling down, which is always best to do in the opposite direction of the race. DonŐt risk getting one of our athletes disqualified!

*Directions to Meet/Parking Fee:
To reach the race site, take Spring Street east from Studebaker Road to El Dorado Regional Park entrance (turn left into park from Spring Street). Races begin at the south end of AREA 3. You must drive through Area 2 to get to Area 3.  It is South of Town Center & North of Wardlow Rd.  Parking is fee $5.00 per vehicle.

*Warren XC Invites: While the varsity guys go for a long training run in the Whittier Hills, the rest of the team will be running in the Warren Invitational at Holydale Park in Southgate.  This is an old but familiar course for alumni as it used to be on our yearly preseason race schedule as well as the Moore League Finals in 2002.  We put it back in our schedule a few years back and all who ran in it said it was a very good meet.  Coach Kevin knows this course better than anyone as he went 14.58 back in 2002 to win Moore League Finals!  Meet Website is:
