2009 LB Poly Boys XC Team

Weekly Fall Newsletter #8

PAST WEEKS HIGHLIGHTS & COACHES THOUGHTS:

A full weekend of racing began on Saturday morning at Mt. SAC w/ the varsity team.  With a severly depleted squad, the guys took advantage of the situation to get in a nice preview race effort before league & CIF.  Almost all the varsity runners who ran had significant time improvements over previous years which will be a great confidence boost going into league finals & CIF.  Ruben was the fastest Poly runner on the day at 16.05 (50 second improvement).  Jazeel was next at 16.27 (82 second improvement), followed by Glenn in 16.59 (106 second improvement), then Chris still feeling a bit of his flu at 17.12 and Dillon rounded out our top 5 at 17.20 (78 second improvement).

The freshmen were off next in heat of the late morning & they turned in some solid runs. Shawn was the fastest Poly 9th grader on the day @ 19.37.  The 9th graders raced hard under the adverse conditions which will definitely help them at Moore League Finals.

The SophÕs were the last Poly runners of the day under the warmer conditions @ 11:40 & they too had some fine runs.  Raul raced very well pacing his way to a 17.39 (89 second improvement), followed closely by first year soph Cameron.    It will be very exciting to watch the F/S peak in their last race of the season & go for the win at Moore League Finals.

The JV guys were unfortunately the Ōdumped onĶ group of the day as the Mt. SAC race committee decided to cancel all JV races except the JV Championship.  I find this very hard to swallow & will be speaking to the race organizers about this as the JV are the building blocks of varsity.  There are many other solutions to the SAC overcrowding problem that wonÕt penalize your varsity in waiting guys.

Fortunatly, our JV have the dedication & commitment to get in the required race simulation tune up before the big Moore League Finals Showdown!  Several guys organized a Saturday time trial at Heartwell Park while most of the rest of the JV spent a big chunk of their Sunday up in LA at the LA Cancer Challenge 5k.  Judging by the amount of guys that took the time to show up & time trial the race, these guys are focus & are really eager to go for the win at Moore League Finals!

We have 1.5 weeks left to accomplish our first set of team goals. Moore League Finals will be a race that you remember for the rest of your life. Lets do everything possible in the next 1.5 weeks to make sure it is a great memory!
